Whitby Town have announced their intention to re-enter the North Riding Senior Cup from next season.
The Seasiders have not competed in the competition since the 2009/10 season, with their last game ending in a penalty defeat to bitter rivals Scarborough Athletic.
The move comes as manager Chris Hardy begins to put his plans in place for the 2016/17 season.
“Andrew Spenceley has informed me that we’ll be going back into the North Riding Senior Cup next year.” Hardy told The Codcast.
“It’s a competition I’ve had a lot of joy in and it’s a good competition from a point of view of playing local sides and sometimes the pro sides. It’s one that we can really look forward to.
“There’ll be plenty of cup involvement for us next year. There’s no reason why we can’t have a good cup run.”
Whitby have this week announced the first part of their pre-season schedule for 2016, with North Riding Senior Cup finalists Guisborough Town forming part of the opposition. The Seasiders will travel to the KGV Ground on Saturday July 23 to compete in the annual Mickey Skinner Memorial Trophy.
Around the Guisborough Town fixture are games against South Shields (Sat. 16th July – 3:00pm), a Middlesbrough XI (Weds 20th July – 7:30pm) and Pickering Town (Tues. 02 August – 7:45pm).
