Report - Whitby Town slumped to a heavy defeat at Cannon Park for the second successive season, this time at the hands of tenants Worksop Town. After a promising first half it all came crashing down for Harry Dunn's men in a six minute spell of madness late on in the game.

There was one change from the side that beat League newcomers Mickleover on Saturday with Mark Robinson unavailable. He was replaced by Andy Leeson in defence.

The match started in light rain with Worksop showing first and forcing Blues keeper Liveredge into a fine save when tipping over a powerful header however Whitby hit back soon after.
With plenty of early possession Whitby should have taken the lead on 9 minutes. Worksop gave the ball away in the middle and Andy Campbell beat his man on the outside. His cross from the left found last season's top scorer Jimmy Beadle 6 yards out but his first time hit flew inches past the post.

Ibby Hassan then saved Whitby a couple of minutes later with a timely tackle when Worksop burst through. Dave McTiernan than had a great opportunity for Whitby but after some good interchanges between Leon Scott and Tony Hackworth McTiernan's shot was too weak a snaffled by the keeper.

The Blues continued with the possession and again pressed forward when good work from Darren Craddock found Hackworth. His cross found Beadle in space again but his shot was again weak.

On the half hour Andy Campbell was upended in the Worksop half. From the resulting free kick Hackworth headed over when well placed.

Hackworth had another chance on the stroke of half time but his powerful drive flew over.

At half time Whitby must have been confident of the points after restricting Worksop's potential threats, however the Tigers cam out with more purpose and took the lead 4 minutes after the break. A cross come shot from the right hand side was blocked on the line but with both Lyth on the post and Liversedge scrambling striker Miekle blasted home.

A minute later and it should have been two, but the ball was wastfully headed over with the goal beckoning.

McTiernan had a great chance to equalise for Whitby when he met Ash Lyth's accurate cross with his head, but he put it wide and Jimmy Beadle also shot wide after good work from Leeson and McTiernan down the right hand side.

Andy Campbell then brought the save of the match out of Worksop stopper Kennedy when he fired in a shot from an acute angle on the right which Kennedy parried away from the on rushing Blues.

The match ended up being a midfield battle until Worksop made an inspired substitution. On 79 minute the new man made an excellent effort of keeping a ball in that most would have given up as a lost cause however keep it in he did and he crossed low for Knox to slam the ball in from 8 yards out.

Two minutes later it was 3-0 when Knox smashed home another close range effort after the Blues Defence went to sleep again. A minute later and a major hash from Hassan saw his ball back to Liversedge far to short allowing Jackson the chance to beat the keeper to the ball and slot home.

The scoring didn't stop there though and Knox completed his hattrick a minute later to make it five for the Tigers with the Whitby players looking stunned.

The match ended with the Whitby support baffled at the outcome. Despite the result Whitby should not take the defeat badly as for the majority of the game they easily matched and mostly outplayed the victors!
