Whitby Town Football Club had approximately 1,000 supporters at the Riverside Stadium for last month’s North Riding Senior Cup final, but unfortunately the occassion was marred by the behaviour of a small of Whitby youths.
The club must reiterate that the setting off of a smoke bomb is a criminal offence and if found guilty, the culprit will have a criminal record. No doubt Middlesbrough Football Club will have CCTV.
The same group of youths caused £500 worth of damage at Bridlington and now £300 at Middlesbrough.
In addition, the Middlesbrough staff had to clean the stand because some of the youths had used it as a toilet.
All of this behaviour is unacceptable and not only tarnishes the image of the club but also Whitby itself.
As a consequence of this behaviour, the costs of the club will again increase, as more stewards will be required to comply with the club’s Safety Certificate, which is issued by Trading Standards and CCTV may have to be installed around the Turnbull Ground.
If anybody knows the identity of these youths, please could they let the club know.
