DISAPPOINTING END FOR THE BLUESASHTON UNITED 2-0 WHITBY TOWNWhitby Town completed their league program with a disappointing 2-0 loss at Ashton today. Our proud unbeaten away record was finally shattered with this loss. Blues are going up though, and 98 points is a pretty impressive haul for the lads. Well done Whitby, we're all proud of you !!CHAMPIONS CRUISE TO ANOTHER WINWHITBY TOWN 2-0 EASTWOOD TOWNWhitby Town got back to winning ways today with a 2-0 victory over Notts side Eastwood Town. The blues had the best of the early exchanges but finally took the lead after 30 minutes when Paul Pitman, recalled at last, scored a magical goal. He ran down the right beat two defenders and slotted the ball cooly past the keeper. Blues went two up after 50 minutes from Craig's player of the year Andy Toman. The goal being not dissimilar to Yakka's earlier effort. CONGATULATIONS TO WORKSOP TOWN !! After their 3-2 win over Buxton today they go up to the premier division with us. I am personally pleased as I can go and see the Blues in Notts next year !!BLUES ARE CHAMPS, AND LINCOLN CAPITALISEWHITBY TOWN 3-5 LINCOLN UNITEDWhitby Town are the champions of the Unibond Division One but managed to produce a slipshod performance against Lincoln United. It was the blues third defeat of the season and all of them have been at home. The team looked tired after a great season, and can still make 100 points for the season. Everything looked rosy for the blues after 7 mins when we were awarded a penalty, but Logan's blaster was superbly saved by the keeper. Lincoln took the lead 5 mins later and went two up after 37. Blues hit back when Jock Williams slotted home after Tomans shot had been saved. Lincoln went 3-1 up shortly after the break beforeJohn Borthwick scrambled in Logies corner. Lincoln then hit there fourth when Campbell was lobbed before Mitch pulled it back to 4-3. With Blues charging for an equaliser, Lincoln got a fifth with a minute to go, and gained ample revenged for the drubbing they got earlier in the season. The championship trophy is to be presented to the team on Wednesday, before the Stocksbridge PS game. Be there !!PROMOTION FOR THE SUPER SEASIDERS !!!WHITBY TOWN 1-0 DROYLSDENYEEEESSS!!!!! WE'RE UP. A second successive promotion for super Whitby Town FC. The Blues defeated Droylsden 1-0 with a 41st minute goal from Craig's player of the season Andy Toman. Well done lads, well done Harry Dunn. Super fans, 700+ there today. What can I say !! COME ON !!BLUES ON THE VERGE OF PROMOTIONHARROGATE TOWN 1-1 WHITBY TOWNWhitby Town moved to within one point of promotion after today's one all draw at Harrogate. Despite having all the possession the Blues missed chances when it mattered and allowed Harrogate to equalise. A poor first half couldn't come to an end quick enough, and when the second half started Whitby took control immediately. Eventually, the breakthrough came when David Goodchild hit the back of the net from 6 yards out. Harrogate equalised 10 minutes later with a fine header. Paul Pitman came on as sub and made an immediate impact when he hit the post after beating the keeper. He then hit the bar from the other side and Harrogate also scrambled the ball off the line when it looked most likely to end up in the back of the net. At the end of the game the 200 plus Whitby fans left feeling disappointed that promotion hadn't been secured, but with Ashton losing all that is needed is one point from the remaining five games.RAIN DELAYS PROMOTION PUSHWhitby Town's promotion push was dented today when their game against Lincoln Utd was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Rivals Worksop won, but Ashton lost, so the Tigers go second, with an easier run in than Ashton. Blues play Harrogate on Monday, so we could get the right results then.6 POINTS TO GO AFTER FARSLEY WINWHITBY TOWN 2-1 FARSLEY CELTICWhitby Town moved six points away from promotion tonight with a 2-1 victory over Farsley Celtic. Ffarsley took the the lead after 20 minutes and looked the better team, before John Borthwick racked in the equaliser for the Blues after 31 minutes. Farsley were looking good for the points and must have been guted when John Francis mhit the winner in the last minute. Blues rode their luck but we can't complain when they win. Lincoln on Saturday, and a win will make Easter Mondays game at Harrogate a Promotion clincher. COME ON YOU BLUES !!BLUES CRUISE PAST WITTONWHITBY TOWN 4-1 WITTON ALBIONWhitby Town produced a performance out of the top draw to dispatch Witton Albion today at the Turnbull. Andy Toman opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a flyeing free kick into the top right hand corner. Witton equalised after 30 minutes, and at half time the score was 1-1. The Seasiders took control when Neil Hodgson scored with a great header just after the break and John Francis then scored a superb third. Hodgy got his second late on to give the Blues a comfortable victory. COME ON !!SEASIDERS WIN IN THE LAKESNETHERFIELD 0-1 WHITBY TOWNWhitby Town took a giant leap towards promotion tonight, with a 1-0 victory against bogey team Netherfield. The Blues away record this season is outstanding, and it continued with this performance in cumbria. I know that Andy Toman scored after 17 seconds, the fasteat goal in the clubs history. Campbell made a few good saves but at the end of tyhe day we could have won by more. At this moment in time, all i can say is COME ON !!!!CAMPBELL HEROICS EARN BLUES THE POINTSBELPER TOWN 0-1 WHITBY TOWNLucky Whitby won the spoils against a plucky Belper side today in Derbyshire. Seasiders started the game the brightest and had the best of the opening exchanges. Paul Pitman going close after 10 minutes, but his shot flew over the bar. Belper had a great chance to take the lead in the 18th minute when the forward rounded cammy but shot over when it seemed easier to score. John Francis scored the crucial goal fir the blues just before the half hour, when he cracked the ball into the top right hand corner of the net at the second attempt. In the 33rd minute Belper came close again when Orr's chip had campbell beaten but hit the bar, then campbell made the save of the match with a point blank effort to deny the impressive Galloway's bullet header. The second half had the Blues on the back foot most of the time and Cmpbell was in fine form again making another magnificent save to deny the Nailers. Blues hung on for the points, after having a few half chances as Belper tired. Geoff Swales commented that the Blues always struggle against teams in Amber !!! COME ON LADS, COME ON !!BLUES HELD IN TOP OF THE TABLE CLASHWHITBY TOWN 1-1 ASHTON UNITEDIn an excellent game between the top two in Unibond one, the honours were even at the turnbull today. 955 saw The Blues start well and have the best of the play, with Ashton looking dangerous on the counter. Jon Francis came close on a couple of occassions but it wasn't until the 33rd minute that the first goal came. John Borthwick jiked his way through the defence and rounded the keeper for great opener. The second half started with Ashton showing us why they've had such a good season. But the blues always looked in control. Then disaster struck with Campbell and Goochie indecisive Jimmy Bell nipped in and walked the ball into the net, to a chorus of Groans from the Blues fans. Ashton hit the bar, but that was their only other effort. Whitby had three good chances to win the game, the best of which fell to sub Paul Hinton who couldn't get hit foot over the ball from 6 yards out after Yakka had hit the bar. The ball whistled over, just as we were about to start celebrating. So 4 points lost or 2 points won this week for the blues depending on your view point but this display showed that we are more than a match for anyone in this league. COME ON YOU BLUES !!DISAPPOINTING DRAW FOR BLUESWHITBY TOWN 1-1 NETHERFIELDWhitby Town suffered at the hands of a poor ref and some poor finishing to record a disappointing draw against lowly netherfield tonight. Netherfield opened the scoring when Fletcher(ex-blues striker) WON them a penalty. Seasiders equalised through Goochie soon after, but Alan Martin was dimissed for his second bookable offence. Blues bombarded the netherfield goal but even after the keeper had been sent off for handball, we couldn't find a way through. Come on lads, we'll need a better performance on Saturday against Ashton Utd !!!SEASIDERS WIN AGAINFLIXTON 1-4 WHITBY TOWNWhitby Town cliched another vital Three points today away at Manchester side Flixton. After a goaless first half in which Whitby always had the edge, Paul Pitman scored from a David Logan corner just after the break. Flixton equalised in the 65th minute, but the Blues responded when David Logan chased a through ball from Graham Williams, and slotted home. Substitutes Paul Hinton and Ian Williams combined, and the latter hit the back of the net to make the score 3-1. In the last minute Paul Pitman got his second of the game to give Whitby Town a 4-1 victory and another 3 points. COME ON!!BLUES GO CLEAR AT TOP AFTER BUXTON DEFEATEDWHITBY TOWN 4-3 BUXTONA crowd of 601 saw Whitby Town defeat Buxton 4-3 at the Turnbull Ground today. Whitby then immediately took a 2-0 lead when Jon Francis converted another Logan corner. Paul Pitman scored after 27 minutes and the Blues were cruising. Just before half time Buxton pulled a goal back through No 9 Botchett. One minute after half time, Whitby extended their lead when Pitman scored his second after an excellent through ball from Jon Francis. Botchett pulled a goal back for Buxton and completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining. Whitby were never in any danger of losing the points and should have won by more but for complacency when 4-1 up. Sub Ian Williams rattled the sixth one in after 84 minutes before John Borthwick completed his Hatrick right on time. COME ON!!REST OF SEASON'S FIXTURES SORTEDWhitby Town now know who they're playing and when for the rest of the season. Goals from John Borthwick x 2, Paul Hinton x 2, Mitch Cook and Andy Toman gave the Seasiders victory.TIGERS TROUNCED BY TOMAN TREBLEWORKSOP TOWN 1-3 WHITBY TOWNA super hatrick from Andy Toman gave the Blues three more points and maintained their unbeaten away record in the league today. It was expected to be a fiercley fought contest with the seasiders looking to avenge a 3-2 reverse from december. The game started brightly with Whitby having the best of the early exchanges, but in the 15th minute Worksop opened the scoring after some poor defensive work form the Blues. Andy Toman equalised four minutes later after a neat move found him in the box and he slotted the ball cooly past keeper yeoman. Whitby took the lead after 20 minutes when Toman found himself in a similar position to earlier and he duly completed another cool finish. Blues controlled the rest of the half with campbell dominent in the air, a the defence looking solid. The second half began with Whitby taking the initiative again and they were rewarded when Toman completed his Hatrick 10 minutes into the half. Worksop fought back but never really threatened and the blues left Notts with three more points. YEEESSS!!BLUES EXIT UNIFILLA CUPBRADFORD PA 2-0 WHITBY TOWNThe Blues were dumped out of the Unifilla cup after a 2-0 defeat at Bradford. I'll try and get a better report soon, but at least we can concentrate on the league without any distractions. Come on lads, lets win promotion again !!!TEN MAN BLUES PREVAILWHITBY TOWN 2-0 GRETNATen man Whitby Town overcame Gretna in a gripping match at the Turnbull today. It looked rosy for the blues early on when Jon Francis scored after only 5 minutes on his home debut. Paul Pitman scored a minute later to give the seasiders a two goal advantage. After 20 minutes Mitch Cook was shown the red card after the Gretna player made a meal of a confrontation, and Whitby were forced onto the back foot. We had chances later on in the half, but the second half saw the Scots waste chance after chance and Whitby Hung on for a vital three points. Worksop next week, lets hope for a great performance from the Seasiders.SUPER SEASIDERS SHOW BLUNTS STEELSSTOCKBRIDGE PS 1-4 WHITBY TOWNWhitby Town gave a magnifcent performance today against south yorkshire side Stocksbridge PS, winning four goals to one. Whitby started the brightest, passing neatly, and came close on several occasions until in the 10th minute Mitch Cook powered in from 20 Yards after a well worked corner found him in acres of space. Steel never posed a threat for the remainder of the half, but whitby came close when new boy Jon Francis' chip went just wide and Goochie powered a header just over. The second half continued in a similar fashion with the Blues dominating the game, and on the hour Paul Pitman swiveled and shot in the box to make the score 2-0. Steels equalised after 70mins after a blunder at the back involving Campbell, and for a while it looked like a nervous few minutes awaited the travelling Seasiders. But with Seven minutes left John Borthwick slotted home from the edge of the box, to give us an unsailable lead. In the last minute Yakka got his second of the game to give Whitby Town a deserved Three points.SEASIDERS MARCH ONWHITBY TOWN 3-0 GREAT HARWOOD TOWNWhitby Town continued on their promotion hunt with a comfortable home win against strugglers Great Harwood Town. With umpteen chances going begging, it was amazing that the Blues didn't reach double figures. The scoring began in the 13th minute when Mitch Cook's free kick from near the half way line was misjudged by the keeper as it flew in to the net. The second came ten minutes later after David Currie and Paul Pitman had had their efforts well saved from the keeper, it appeared to be John Borthwick who scored, but that's open to question ! Yakka made it 3-0 after rounding the keeper just before half time, which signalled a foot off the pedal attitude from the Blues for the second half. The G.Harwood keeper made at least five excellent saves during the second half and we also put a couple of chances wide, but that's the three points that we needed, and with Witton and Ashton suffering post Trophy blues we're now up second. Well done lads, keep it up !!GUISBOROUGH DISPATCHED AS USUALGUISBOROUGH 0-1 WHITBY TOWN (after extra time)The Blues beat guiborough Town 1-0 after extra time tonight in the north riding senoir cup. In a game that the Seasiders didn't really need we overcame our local rivals as usual. The goal came from the penalty spot after 110 minutesand was blasted home by Dave Logan. It was Paul Hinton who won the penalty for the blues after a mazy run into the box. David Campbell made an heroic penalty save in the last minute to save the seasiders from a penalty shootout lottery. Guisborough had a point to prove and some old scores to settle, but never looked likely to score. Paul Pitman had the chances to secure an easy passage into the next round, but he couldn't get the rub of the green. Let's hope for the right result in Saturday's match at the Turnbull against Lancashire side Great Harwood Town.SEASIDERS CONTINUE TO PRESSURE LEADERSGRETNA 1-2 WHITBY TOWNThe Blues continued their impressive away form today with a 2-1 victory against another former northern league clun Gretna. Goals from Paul Pitman abd John Borthwick secured the three points. The first half was pretty even, until Yakka's 44th minute opener for The Blues, thanks to a spectacular overhead kick after Dave Logan had crossed. During the second half, Gretna had chances to equalise hiting the bar and the post, but Whitby's Andy Toman also came close on one occasion before Paul Pitman hit the post. Gretna eventually equalised in the 66th minute after a fine through ball enabled the forward to slot the ball under David Campbell. Whitby's winner came in the 77th minute from John Borthwick as he slotted in from Graeme William's cross. Blues manager Harry Dunn said afterwards "We were lucky to get a win".MORE WEATHER TROUBLEWhitby Town's Unifilla cup game with Bradford PA was cancelled last night. I hope that the Blues can get a game on Saturday against Gretna or they'll have forgotten what a football is.WEATHER BEATS BLUES AGAINFor the second game in succession, Whitby Town had to settle for an afternoon in front of the fire after their crunch game against Ashton United was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch. The midweek game against Flixton had also been cancelled. Only two games were played in the Unibond league on saturday, between buxton and stocksbridge and eastwood and farsley celtic with both games resulting in draws.SEASIDERS BEAT YORKS RIVALS .. EVENTUALLY !WHITBY TOWN 1-0 HARROGATE TOWNIt came eventually ! Paul Pitman scored the winner for the blues 10 minutes from time to give the Blues a precious three points. Some superb goalkeeping from the Harrogate keeper kept them in the game until Yakka struck. Whitby totally dominated the game and should have won by any number of goals but the keeper kept them at bay. Another three points for the Blues keeps them in touch with the leaders, the crunch game is against Ashton United next saturday.BLUES BACK ON TRACKDROYLESDEN 2-3 WHITBY TOWNWhitby Town bounced back in style with a 3-2 victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Droylesden. Whitby started well and were on top when Mitch Cook, back after suspension, fired home after 17 minutes. The Blues were playing well but Droylesden hit back with an equaliseron the half hour. Lawrie Pearson restored the lead for the Seasiders just before half time after good work from Dave Currie. A minute into the second ahlf John Borthwick put Whitby 3-1 ahead with a header at the far post, and the blues were cruising again. 10 Minutes from time David Campbell dropped the ball and droylesen pulled a goal backk, but it wasn't enough, and the Blues hung on for Three vital points.TIGERS SINK SEASIDERSWHITBY TOWN 2-3 WORKSOP TOWNWhitby town's sixteen game unbeaten run the league came to an abrupt end today when they were beaten by Worksop Town at the Turnbull. The tigers took the lead after ten minutes after some fine work down the right, but the Blues hit back with a goal from Paul Pitman shortly after. Then after some excellent pressure Whitby took the lead when David Currie fired in low from the egde of the box. Whitby then decided to throw it all away with help from some dodgy refereeing descisions. David Campbell was too indesisive for of poor through ball which gave worksop No 10 Johnson time to reach the ball and cammy dragged him down for a penalty. 2-2 at half time, but nothing to be worried about. But Whitby performed as badly in the second half as they did at Hinkley and despite a lot of possession never looked like scoring a winner, and it came as no suprise when Worksop broke free and Johnson fired in the winner with 20 minutes left. Sorry lads, but you'll have to buck up now and show us what your made of next week at droylesden.SUPER BLUES CRUSH LINCOLNLINCOLN UTD 2-5 WHITBY TOWNA fantastic Whitby Town performance cheered the travelling blues fans today at Lincoln. The Seasiders produced their best football of the season and showed the confidence and skill that brought them so much success last season. Starting well again, Whitby always had the upper hand over Lincoln but it took a superb David Currie goal midway through the half to get them off the mark. Kenny Goodrick thumped in a second just before half time to give the blues a well deserved 2-0 lead. Lincoln came out for the second half looking like they mean't business but before they knew what had hit them they were three down ! Yakka scored his 351st goal for the club when the keeper and defender hesitated. Lincoln hit back with a fine headed goal , before Dave Logan converted a penalty to give the Blues a 4-1 lead. Jock Williams got the fifth after the keeper failed to hold Andy Toman's shot and Lincoln immediatly pulled one back. Whitby were never in danger of throwing the game away and had more chances to increase their lead. Overall some excellent performances from Andy Toman, Dave Logan and Lawrie Pearson let Whitby show the class that even United's supporters appreciated.GOOD RUN CONTINUES FOR SEASIDERSWHITBY TOWN 2-1 CONGLETON TOWNWith the wind and rain hitting the turnbull ground hard, 400+ blues fans saw them beat plucky Congelton Town 2-1 for the second time in a week. Whitby took the lead when Neil Hodgson scored during a period of play where Whitby always had control. Congelton hit back though in the second half before Paul Pitman clinched the three points for the blues after some serious goalmouth pressure. An improved performance from the blues who seem to be getting themselves back in form.SEASIDERS THROUGH IN CUPWHITLEY BAY 1-2 WHITBY TOWNWhitby Town made it through to the second round of the Unifilla Cup with a 2-1 victory away at Whitley Bay. Goals from Paul Pitman and Alan Martin were enough to give the Seasiders a victory. On Saturday Whitby Town will be looking to maintain their challenge to the leaders in the Unibond Division One with a victory in the return game against Congleton Town.CONGELTON CONQUERED BY LACKLUSTRE BLUESCONGLETON TOWN 1-2 WHITBY TOWNWhitby town gained a valuable three points in Cheshire today against a poor Congleton Town team. The blues with a near full team for once this season, were the better team without ever looking convincing. Paul Pitman put the Seasiders in front after 17 minutes after good work down the left from Hodgy and Logan. Congleton pulled a goal back almost immediately with David Campbell gave away the daftest own goal your ever likely to see. The blues remained the better side in the first half but congelton nearly went in front when their number seven, Weston, hit the post. Whitby started the second half brightly and had a few chances to take the lead before Hodgy scored in the 51st minute from the edge of the box. Whitby totally bossed the rest of the match until the last ten minutes when they tried to hold on to what they'd got but let Congleton back in to it and nearly allowed them to snatch an undeserved point. With all due respect we shouldn't struggle to beat teams like these and Harry won't be chuffed with the display but three points are three points and we remain unbeaten away in the league.MISSED CHANCES PAY DEARLY FOR BLUES AGAINWHITBY TOWN 2-2 WHITLEY BAY19/11/97 - A game played in appalling conditions resulted in a 2-2 draw at the turnbull ground tonight. Whitby Town again missed vital chances to progress in the unifilla cup competition. New signing David Currie made an impressive debut for the seasiders and the return from injury of David Goodchild was also a bonus. Goals from the excellent Lee Baldwin and a debut goal from mr Currie gave Whitby a replay with Bay. An upturn in form is vital if we are to keep up the pressure on the top clubs in unibond one. hopefully that will happen on saturday at Congelton. See you there.HARRY'S PROGRAMME BLASTHere's a snippet from Saturday's programme expressing manager Harry Dunn's viws on Whitby's recent performances. This appears courtesy of Brian Murfield.A MANAGER'S VIEWPOINT - Last Saturday's result at Hinckley in the FA Trophy was a big disappointment not only in the result but also in our second half display against ten men. We seem to keep our worst displays of the season for the most important cup-ties and it has cost the club dearly. The excuse of having a number of players injured isn't justified when, in my opinion, we can still field a good, strong, experienced team against ordinary opposition and still not even manage at least a draw. In the nineteen months I have been with the club, we have gone from being a mid-table Northern League side to a side that I would expect to be able to hold their own against any non-league team in the country and certainly, last season's results would support my words. Although we have only lost four games from twenty-one so far, and with a very similar squad, at times some players are not producing anywhere near the form of last season. This isn't good enough at our level. Players should realise that when they are in the team, they should work hard and perform to make sure I am not justified to leave them out when other players return from injury. At the moment, this is not the case. Also, as with every manager, I am always looking for better players and with some young players in the reserves performing very well, I may not need to look very far. Finally, when fans spend three hours travelling to and from games to support the team, as well as the financial cost, players have a great responsibility to make sure our fans enjoy a weekend which has cost them a lot of time and money. Last Saturday they were let down very badly - Harry A Dunn. Whitby have completed the signing of former Barnsley and Nottingham Forest centre-forward, David Currie from Gateshead. Also, the Seasiders have received seven days notice of approach for striker Steve Pyle from Whitley Bay, but are unlikely to release him until more players are fit. ROBBO BREAKS LEG ?Rumours are suggesting that former blues striker and hero from last season, Graham Robinson, broke his leg on saturday during Gateshead's draw with Leek in the conference. Robbo had discovered his goal touch in recent games, after playing most of the season as a centre half. If the rumours are true , we all wish him a very speedy recovery.THREE MORE POINTS FOR AZZURRIWHITBY TOWN 1-0 MATLOCK TOWN15/11/97 - Whitby enjoyed the better of the early play and Paul Pitman's shot brought a fine save from Duke. Evans and Tracey were both off target for Matlock. Hodgy went close twice before Steve Pyle put Yakka through to shoot past the advancing Duke. The highlight of the second half was a brilliant save by Duke who dived to his left to clear a ricochet off Pyle from just under the bar. Matlock had a chance in the 80th minute, Cammy saving at the expense of a corner.LATE WINNER KOs SEASIDERSWHITBY TOWN 0-1 SPENNYMOOR12/11/97 - A second defeat in a row for the Blues mean't that they will take no further part in the unibond league cup for this season. A late winner for spennymoor united knocked us out in game that neither side seemed that they wanted to win. A near full strength Whitby side lacked that sparkle up front , similar to saturday and will be looking to improve ahead of saturday's league reurn with Matlock Town at the Turnbull.TROPHY GLOOM FOR BLUESHINKLEY UNITED 3-1 WHITBY TOWN8/11/97 - Whitby Town suffered their first away defeat of the season by losing 3-1 to ten man Hinkley Utd of the Dr Martens league. The FA Vase holders were outfought by plucky Hinkley in this FA Trophy second qualifying round. Andy Toman had given the blues an 11th minute lead and Whitby were always in control up to half time. Hinkley had their skipper sent off for elbowing Toman in the face just before half time, but come the second half Hinkley showed great spirit and snatched three breakaway goals with the blues looking to press home their advantage. Harry Dunn didn't want to blame injuries for any of Whitby's shortcomings , but he'll be relieved to get a full strength side out in the future. Paul Pitman, Dave Logan, Goochie and John Borthwick were all out.LEAGUE CUP DRAW FOR TOWN RESERVES!SPENNYMOOR 1-1 WHITBY TOWN4/11/97 - Harry Dunn put out a vitrual reserve side again to safeguard against injuries and came away a a creditable draw against premier division highflyers Spennymoor. Mike Young grabbed the goal for the blues to give them an unwanted replay at the turnbull.INJURY RIDDEN TOWN HOLD ON FOR VICTORYBUXTON 1-2 WHITBY TOWN1/11/97 - With a virtual reserve team due to a catalogue of injuries, Whitby Town grabbed another precious three points with a deserved victory over Buxton. With my old pal Jase Draper taking the injured Paul Piman's shirt and without dave logan, goochie, andy toman, john borthwick and steve pyle, Whitby performed well and were worth the win. Brian Crawley thumped the Blues in front with a 20 yard screamer to give us a 1-0 half time lead. Buxton hit back at the start of the second half and scored their first goal for 5 games. With Jase replaced at half time the excellent Dean McGee twisted and turned before smacking the ball past the Buxton keeper. Despite Buxtons best efforts they couldn't prevent the seasiders from maintaining their unbeaten away run.BACK TO WINNING WAYSFARSLEY CELTIC 1-2 WHITBY TOWN29/10/97 - Whitby Town got back to winning ways on wednesday night when they overcame Farsley Celtic 2-1 in West Yorkshire. Goals from Fletch and Steve Pyle were enough to give the blues a morale boosting victory after their recent stuttering form. The super seasiders are still unbeaten on their travels this season and will hope to keep up the record away to Buxton on Saturday. See you there !DISAPPOINTING DRAW FOR SEASIDERSWHITBY TOWN 2-2 BELPER25/10/97 - Whitby Town kept up their unbeaten record in the league with a disappointing draw against northern counties east champs Belper. Whitby went in front after 7 minutes thanks to a free kick from Dave Logan, but found themselves 2-1 down before goochie salvaged a draw in the dyong seconds. A bit of a sticky patch at the moment for the Blues, let's hope that they put on a good show next week at Buxton when I watch them !!SHOOTOUT VICTORY MASKS DISMAL DISPLAYWHITBY TOWN 3-3 NETHERFIELD (aet ) whitby win on pens 4-3A penalty shootout victory against a plucky Netherfield side gave Whitby Town an undeserved win in their FA Trophy first round replay at the Turnbull. Two down with minutes left, Whitby incredibly pulled it back to 2-2 with goals from Yakka and John Borthwick. Netherfield then made it 3-2 during the overtime period before Andy Toman equalised in the dying seconds. A shootout ensued and The Blues ran out winners 4-3 despite Steve Pyle missing twice!! The Seasiders now play Hinkley Town from Leicestershire in the next round on Nov 8th.HARRY BLASTS "PATHETIC" BLUESNETHERFIELD 1-1 WHITBY TOWNHarry Dunn blasted the Whitby Town performance after his side failed to defeat nine-man Netherfield. Whitby even missed two penalties and were caught late on when Netherfield broke away and scored. Andrew Fletcher had followed up Paul Pitmans penalty miss to give the blues the lead just before half time, but they were unable to capitalise on the weakened Netherfield attack. The replay takes place on Wednesday at The Turnbull with the winners meeting Stafford Rangers or Hinkley Town in the 2nd qualifying round.HOT STREAK CONTINUES FOR HARRY'S BOYSWHITLEY BAY 1-3 WHITBY TOWNWhitby Town's run up the league continued with another win against Whitley Bay. Goals from Yakka, Fletch and Kenny Goodrick ensured Whitby had an easy victory. Things are looking good for the blues after a first Saturday defeat and the team seems to be adjusting to the Unibond League well.SEASIDE AZZURRI CRUISE TO VICTORYWHITBY TOWN 3-2 WHITLEY BAYIt happened again. Whitby Town went a goal down after 15 minutes despite Harry Dunn's pleas to stop chasing the game. Goals from Paul "Yakka" Pitman, Andy Toman and John Borthwick ensured that The Blues cruised to another victory against former Northern League foes, Whitley Bay. Bay pulled a goal back with 5 minutes left, but it wasn't enough to stop the Seasiders' improving and impressive form.BRADFORD PA CRUSHEDWHITBY TOWN 5-2 BRADFORD PADespite going a goal down in the first minute for the umpteenth time this season, Whitby town registered their 4th win of the season by seeing of Bradford Park Avenue at the Turnbull. Goals from Mitch Cook, John Borthwick, a back from illness Kenny Goodrick, and two from our favorite Paul 'Yakka' Pitman, ensured that our fine start to the season continued. Confidence must up in the Seasiders camp now, knowing that there isn't a team in this league that we should be afraid of.AWAY RUN CONTINUESTRAFFORD 1-3 WHITBY TOWNWhitby Town continued their impressive away form with a solid second half performance against fellow Unibond newboys Trafford. After going down to an early goal as usual it was up to Harry Dunn to give the lads a good talking to at half time, and once again a second half performance of quality football eventually saw off the Manchester side. An own goal got Whitby going before Andy Fletcher and Yakka got the two goals to give The Blues a pleasing victory.BLUES BACK TO WINNING WAYSWHITBY TOWN 6-1 HARROGATE TOWNWhitby got back to winning the other night with a 6-1 thumping of fellow league rivals Harrogate. two goals apiece for Yakka, Fletch, and Andy Toman gave a much needed boost to Harry's boys. Harrogate collapsed after taking an early lead and finished the game with 9 men after a couple of injuries. Let's hope we can carry on our improving league form on Saturday against Trafford in Manchester.BLUES HAMMERED AT HOME - WHITBY TOWN 1-4 WINSFORDDespite taking an early 3rd minute lead Whitby Town were soundly beaten and outclassed by an impressive Winsford team. It was a disappointing display from the lads but with injuries currently the problem for Harry Dunn it was probably a good job that the score was kept down to four.So thats the cup over with for another year, we'll just have to go plugging on in the league. One defeat and unbeaten away is a solid enough start! WE'RE WHITBY TOWN , WE'RE GOING UP AGAIN , YOU'RE NEVER GONNA KEEP US DOWN !! WHITBY TOWN 6-2 NETHERFIELDA victory over the Cumbrians on Saturday gave the Seasiders a meeting with Winsford at the Turnbull on September 27th. Paul Pitman scored his FIRST hatrick of the season in a victory in which Whitby were still not at full strength. The other goals were scored by Andrew Fletcher, Brian Crawley and a Netherfield own goal. Mitch Cook managed to score his second own goal of the season!Hopefully we can begin another great cup run like last year when we were very very unlucky to lose to Hull City. That game still gets my goat! If you've seen the video and watched the match from the tv perspective you still get the impression that we were the best side on the night just we got that impression from that cheesy end we were stood at. Workington Town 0-1 Whitby Town 09/09/97The Seasiders collected their second win of the season and revenge for an opening day defeat by beating one time league outfit Workington. A goal from Andrew Fletcher in the 16th minute was enough to give Whitby victory. Without key players Neil Hodgson, David Goodchild, Kenny Goodrick and Darren Ward Whitby made a shaky start but went on to earn a hard worked if unspectacular victory.TEAM Campbell, G Williams, Logan, Martin, Pearson, Cook, Borthwick, Crawley, Fletcher, Toman, Pitman, Subs, Pyle, McGee, I Williams I noticed that Graham Robinson scored for Gateshead the other day in their game against Telford, well done Robbo ! |
