Report - by www.whitbytoday.co.uk - FORMER Whitby favourite Carl Chillingsworth hit a four-goal blitz as his side Northallerton pulled off a stunning result at the Turnbull. The striker, nicknamed Chilli, capitalised on some woeful defending to dump his former employers out of the first round of the North Riding Senior Cup on Wednesday night. And a poor night for the Blues was compounded by missiles being thrown on to the pitch, which has led a decision to revise the 'kids for a quid' scheme. Chairman Graham Manser said the club would not tolerate such behaviour. Youngsters can still get in for £1 but must now be accompanied by an adult. On the pitch, Whitby mustered the first chance on three minutes as Stephen Thomas skipped to the byline but blasted the ball across the face of goal. Northallerton looked the better side early on and having been harshly pulled up for offside a couple of times, got the ball in the net – only to be denied by the flag again. But the visitors made the breakthrough when Chillingsworth poked home unmarked from close range on 22 minutes. With Whitby lacking any ideas or creativity, leading scorer Danny Brunskill dropped back more in search of the ball – and forced keeper Sam Dobbs into a smart stop from a skidding 20-yard drive. Brunskill them embarked on a mazy run and laid the ball off to Karl Richards, who blazed wastefully over when well placed. Local lad Dobbs was in action again before the break, doing well to tip Ant Ormerod's looping header away from danger. If Blues fans thought the first half was poor, they could not have expected the horror show their team would produce in the second. Ten minutes after the restart, Chillingsworth was released on the right and beat Norton with a superb chip to double the Northern League side's advantage. Chilli then completed his treble on 64 minutes before another former Whitby man, Craig Skelton, left the Turnbull faithful in disbelief by grabbing the fourth moments later. The Blues went close late on with Richards firing just over after a good run before the scoring was finally completed on the stroke of full-time. A defence-splitting pass gave Chillingsworth acres of room to pick his spot and nonchalantly roll the ball under Norton for 5-0. There was just time for Richards to crack a fierce angled drive goalwards in injury-time but Dobbs reacted well and made the save. |
