Report - Two spectacular goals got a young Blues side out of jail at Northern League Division One Marske United on Saturday. The visitors, who included a number of candidates for their new under-19 side started brightly with Anthony Ormerod's 25-yard piledriver parried by Marske keeper Andy Vickers, into the path of Danny Brunskill, back at his hometown club, who off balance shot early with his wrong foot and sent the ball over the top from close range. Halfway through the first half, Tony Hackworth's right-wing cross found South African Vince Arouga whose low drive was pushed wide by Vickers. However, it was Marske who took the lead just after the half hour when a corner from the left was floated onto the head of the unmarked Ben Thompson who made no mistake nodding home. The hosts grew in confidence and almost doubled their lead four minutes before half-time when a shot from the edge of the area struck the right hand post of Whitby's debutant former Northern Ireland youth and Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Richard Heiniger. As it was, Cleveland's answer to the Seasiders didn't have to wait long to extend their advantage. Around ten minutes after the restart, a ball from the right looped perfectly for Liam McPhillips to outjump right-back Dom Wilson, a local teenage trialist and head home goal number two. But within five minutes, the arrears were reduced in spectacular fashion when the impressive Hackworth ran onto a loose ball and thundered a 25-yard blockbuster off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net. As well as the four other subs including another local youngster on debut in Mitch Lund, and 25-year-old ex-Manchester United and Newcastle midfielder Carl Heiniger, the manager himself took to the field for the closing stages. And 38-year-old Blues supremo Lee Nogan came close in front of goal, but fellow veteran Matty Appleby came even closer. Town levelled matters seven minutes from time when a corner was played short to Appleby who powered a 20-yard drive past Vickers despairing right glove for 2-2.
