A win or a draw against Ayton was good enough to the competition, Ayton started the better team and had Whitby on the back foot and only a brilliant save from Dossor and goal line clearance prevented Ayton from taking the lead .
But against the run of play Whitby broke down the right , resulting in Millward hammering the ball home making it 1-0 at half time.
The second half started with Ayton desperate to get back in the game, but as Ayton pushed forward for an equaliser, Whitby counter attacked and scored two goals in quick succession both coming from Millward on the right Whitby now took control of the game and near the end Millward added his fourth and fifth goals to make the final score 5-0 . This was an excellent team preformance with special note going to goalkeeper Dossor and defenders Steyert , Hansell,Myers and debutant Gale as Whitby did not concede a goal in the tourament .
The boys would like to dedicate their win to John Storr who tragically lost his battle to cancer eight weeks ago and in a touching move decided to present the trophy to John,s widow Sue.
