Report - from www.whitbytoday.co.uk - Striker Tommy Raw's early double set Whitby on the way to three welcome points as they held off a late Frickley comeback.
Now boss Lee Nogan is calling for more of the same tomorrow as the Blues take on the West Yorkshire side again, this time in the FA Cup.
Frickley's Callum Selby was first to try his luck in Wednesday night's league match at the Turnbull as his well-struck shot brushed the side netting.
But the home side took a ninth-minute lead when a neat build-up culminated in Nogan laying off a neat pass for Raw to slot home. Three minutes later the diminutive hitman netted again from close range to leave himself on a hat-trick early doors. The visitors attempted to find a way back into the game, firstly Nesa squeezed in between two defenders but shot weakly at Blues keeper Dave Campbell.
Then the same man was given too much room to cut in from the left and fire in a shot but again, it was easy for Cammie.
The pacy Raw was anxious to get a third and could have had a chance but appeared to be bundled over, however, the referee ignored loud protests from the home supporters.
Whitby almost added another five minutes before the break as Danny Brunskill drifted out wide and clipped in a great cross which found Ant Ormerod, but the ex-Middlesbrough man looped a header just over.
Blues dominated the first half as Frickley struggled at times to get the ball out of their own half, but they could not find the killer third goal.
Defender Danny Farthing almost got in on the action after the restart but his glancing header from a free-kick just lacked sufficient power.
Then, Dave McTiernan fizzed a shot just wide after another defence-splitter opened up the away defence for him to line up a shot. Despite Whitby's superiority, they could not put the game to bed and their lead was halved when sub Mark Ward cheekily flicked in a low cross to put Frickley back in contention.
But normal service resumed moments later when Ormerod was upended in the box and Brunskill confidently despatched the spot-kick to restore the Blues' two-goal lead.
Just as the fans' optimism had returned, it was quickly squashed as the fifth goal of the night went to the visitors. Alex Callery caught out Campbell with a pinpoint curling free-kick into the top corner from 25 yards.
Blues added some steel to the side as the robust Scaife replaced player-manager Nogan and his penetrating run from deep teed up Brunskill whose shot this time ended up just the wrong side of the far post.
Frickley piled on the pressure late on as the Blues survived one or two hairy moments.
Nesa's fierce drive whizzed over the top and then full-back Phil Brumwell was on hand to clear a deflected cross off the line but Whitby deserved the points.
