Whitby Town players celebrate a goal by Matty Tymon

Blues will be scratching their heads how they didn’t win this game after peppering visitors Mickleover in a one-sided second half.

A slow opening period saw the hosts on top but struggling to test goalkeeper Jack Tolley. Adam Gell brought a good low push around his right-hand post from the Mickleover gloveman, on six minutes. Callum Martin then had the stopper backtracking with a deep free-kick from the left that was inches wide.

The away side were limited to two tame John McGrath free-kicks over the top. Whitby broke the deadlock, four minutes into the second half. Dan McWilliams’ left wing cross was too high for Mikey Roberts but Matty Tymon following up slid home first-time for 1-0. However, against the run of play, the Derbyshire side were level. A low ball in from the right was turned against Luke Bythway’s hand by team-mate Andy May and Adam Baskerville slotted home the resulting penalty.

Chris Hardy’s men then laid siege with Martin’s beautiful cushioned lay off releasing Steven Snaith, who powerful drive was turned away by Tolley and Tymon’s far post follow up was nodded against the head of  Tom Burgin on the line. The resulting corner fell for Hopson to chip inches over from the edge of the box and soon after, Martin’s right-wing ball saw Roberts’ far post volley charged down and Tolley brilliantly point-blank from Tymon’s follow-up. The Whitby number ten then had one last chance to add to his tally, heading towards the top-left corner, beating Tolley, only for big Pablo Mills to nod off his own goal-line with 12 minutes left.
