Report - After Saturday's hiccup at Frickley, last night's game gained in importance for Whitby. A win at Farsley kept them in touch with the leading pack & moved them up a place to fourth in the league, four points behind the hosts with three games in hand.
It was a strong, well organised display from the Blues with a sterling performance from Farthing as well as safe handling from Campbell. Debutant Karl Richards made an impressive start working hard & finding space on the left flank as well as tackling back when the need arose.
Whitby took the lead in the 24th minute when they were awarded a penalty for handball & Craig Veart made no mistake blasting the ball past Sutcliffe. Farsley's attempts on goal were few & far between but Campbell always seemed in control between the Whitby posts.
The second half saw the home side force a string of corners but the central pairing of Farthing & Nicholson stood firm. The killer blow came in the 65th minute. Robinson had the ball at his feet some 20 yards out from goal & seemed devoid of options. To everyone's surprise he unleashed a curling shot past Sutcliffe's outstretched right hand which nestled snugly inside the post.
McDaid spoiled Whitby's chance of a clean sheet when he ghosted in behind the defence in the dying seconds to nod home a consolation goal.
