Report - The Blues turned around their recent trend of giving away two-goal leads to progress in the North Riding Cup after a thriller at Marske on Tuesday.
New Marske Sports Club, runaway leaders of the Wearside Football League, a feeder of the Arngrove Northern, took an early lead through Alex Anderson to shock the Seasiders, who were without the experienced Dean Gordon. The Cleveland side held the advantage until half-time and soon after, doubled it. Nicky Ward netted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0.
The Unibond side soon clawed their way back into the game with top scorer Danny Brunskill on target moments later, and Brunskill's 13th of the season then levelled the scores.
But New Marske showed why they've bagged no less than 46 goals in 14 matches so far when they regained the lead after substitute Sam Garvie took on several Whitby defenders before curling the ball past Dave Campbell.
The Blues levelled the scores again soon after when Tom Adams netted his third of the season and Town went on to clinch the tie in the final five minutes. Tom Claisse grabbed his first goal since his return to the Turnbull, to inflict a first defeat of the season on Monty Alexander's table-topping team and book a trip to another Wearside League club, Teesside Athletic in the last eight.
